When to use the Jerkbait?

Even if the Jerkbait even if the jerkbait arrived late in France, it managed to make a place for itself in the fishing world quite quickly. The lure has a fairly long body and can be presented in different shapes. However, anglers still don’t know exactly when it is best to use it. Therefore, a few explanations are necessary.

Fishing in clear water

First of all, before using it, it is necessary to know the characteristics of the Jerkbait. It is a swimming fish that is quite long and quite thin. It imitates perfectly the silhouette and the swim of the forage fish. That is why it is the best lure to use in clear or lightly coloured water. It is possible to use either a hard or soft lure, but there are a number of factors that should influence your choice.

Furthermore, as there are also three main categories of jerkbaits, it is also possible to choose the most suitable lure depending on the depth of the water. In this case, there is the floating Jerkbait, the sinking Jerkbait and the suspended Jerkbait. However, it is important to note that everything is relative to each area. For the suspended jerkbait, for example, fishing from the shore is best suited to its use.

The ideal season for jerkbaits

Jerkbaits are the kind of lures that are suitable for all types of predators. But that doesn’t mean you have to use it any old way. At the beginning of the cold season, when the water temperature is between 6 and 12 °C, jerkbaits are very effective. In general, all types of jerkbaits work in winter with big fish. This is when they build up their reserves and are attracted to smaller fish.

For the floating jerkbait, as the name suggests, it is mainly suitable for surface fishing. As for the season, it is best used when the water is warmer than in winter. Here, the water temperature should be around 15/16 °C.

Types of fish suitable for jerkbaits

Depending on the type of fish you want to catch, you can also use different jerkbaits. The diving jerkbait is not yet mentioned because it is a lure in its own right. Its use is not to be taken lightly. It is mainly used for trout fishing in rivers, but it is also possible to use it on bass. You can also use this lure to track large predators.

It is therefore more effective to use the sinking jerkbait for more active fishing. The reason for this is that it holds the current better than other types of jerks. In addition, retrieves are easier with this lure because of its robustness. In any case, jerkbaits are suitable for all anglers, even beginners.
